Sacred Treasures of Rome
The fourth album in the London Oratory Schola Cantorumâs âSacred treasuresâ series, âSacred treasures of Romeâ featuring six works by Palestrina in celebration of his 500th anniversary this year. While majoring on Palestrina, the album also features music by other Renaissance composers active in Rome in the Renaissance, including Allegri, Felice and Giovanni Anerio, Animuccia, Giovannelli, Marenzio, Nanino and Soriano. Uniquely, the average age of the Schola across all the voice parts is just 14. The choir gives boys aged 7 to 18 the opportunity of an outstanding choral education within the state-education system.Â
âWe might be back in St Markâs Basilica in the late 16th century, so haunting and crystalline are these recordings by the London Oratory choirâ (The Sunday Times) âBeautifully sung ⊠strongly recommendedâ (Classic FM).
